This updated Section specifies intrusion and burglar detection on the perimeter of a site.
This Section does not specify intrusion detection systems for buildings; such systems are specified in Division 13 Section "Intrusion Detection." This Section does not specify fence-mounted intrusion detection that is integrally installed in fencing during the fencing manufacturing process; it should be specified in Division 2 Section "Chain-Link Fences and Gates." This Section does not specify vehicle detection sensors; a traffic-control version of these sensors is also specified in the "Chain-Link Fences and Gates" Section. This Section does not specify closed-circuit television systems; they are specified in Division 13 Section "Video Surveillance." This Section also does not specify data transmission systems to locations off the premises, nor is data encryption included that should be part of such transmission systems. Data transmission systems are specified in Division 16 Section "Voice and Data Communication Cabling."
This Section also does not specify access-control systems such as card-access installations, electrically operated locks, watch-tour systems, and wireless monitoring and control. These devices are specified in Division 13 Section "Security Access," and central control should be integrated with the functions of this Section. Intercommunication systems associated with intrusion detection and sound systems dedicated to security use are specified in other Division 16 Sections and can be integrated to function with the system in this Section.
