Senior Architectural Specification Writer
Buz Groshong is the MasterSpec staff writer for specification sections dealing
with LEED® requirements, masonry, stone, carpentry, woodwork, wood doors,
metalwork, louvers, elevators, and miscellaneous other subjects. Since joining
the MasterSpec staff he has added 28 new sections to the ASC library. He is also
responsible for the Small Project library and is coordinator for the Outline
library.
He has a B.A. degree from the University of Virginia, has worked in architecture in the Washington, DC area since
1969, and has been a MasterSpec writer since 1993. He is a member of the DC Metropolitan Chapter of CSI, ANSI
Committee A108 on Ceramic Tile, ASTM Committee C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units, ASTM Committee C18 on Dimension
Stone, the Nature Conservancy, and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club.
In his spare time Buz enjoys hiking in various parts of the US and other countries and does a bit of relatively
easy mountain climbing. The photograph of Buz was taken while he was learning to rappel in the Peruvian Andes.
My father was an architect and I grew up in the business. That experience taught me the importance of getting
it right. Working on MasterSpec documents enables me to help provide architects and engineers with the best tools
and information they can have to get it right.
