Ron Geren, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP, is the principal of RLGA Technical Services, a specifications and code consulting practice in Scottsdale, Arizona.  He’s a native Arizonan and a 1984 architecture graduate of the University of Arizona.  Ron has held several technical and project management positions with the U.S. Air Force, the State of Arizona, and Arizona State University.  Before starting his own consulting business, Ron was a project manager, the specification writer, and quality assurance “coach,” as he puts it, for the Phoenix office of Gould Evans for nine years.

Ron began using MasterSpec in 1998 when he joined the Gould Evans office and has continued to use it in his consulting business.

Ron’s project experience has a focus on higher education with projects ranging from residence halls, classroom buildings, lab buildings, to sports facilities at a variety of university and community colleges.  Other project experience includes libraries, multifamily residential, commercial retail, religious, and military.

In addition to his CSI credentials, Ron is a registered architect, a Certified Building Plans Examiner, and a Certified Concrete Masonry Testing Technician.  Ron is an active volunteer for CSI at the chapter, region and Institute levels.  At his home chapter in Phoenix, Ron has been 2nd and 1st vice president, programs committee chair, and president (2007-2008).  In the CSI Southwest Region, Ron is presently the programs chair.  For the Institute, Ron was recently made chair of the Body of Knowledge Assessment (BOKA) Task Team for the CSI’s Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certificate program.  Ron’s memberships in other organizations include the American Institute of Architects, International Code Council, Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice, ASTM International, and the National Fire Protection Association.

Ron has written numerous articles on understanding building codes for various publications including The Construction Specifier.   Ron is also an associate faculty member of Arizona State University, teaching graduate level classes on construction documents using CSI’s CDT program.  He is a major supporter of education, and participates regularly as an instructor in CSI education programs.

Ron is also a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve with 23 years of combined active and reserve service.
